Answering CIA FactBook Questions

Today in class Jevan was the teacher. He went over the questions that we had to look up on Wednesdauy on the CIA Factbook website. We also learned different things about many countries that we would not ever think would be true about the country or coninent like  Mexico is the 3rd country with the most airports. I was thinking a bigger country other than Mexico would be higher up on the list and way before Mexico.

Settlement & Population

Today we started a new topic in class on population and settlement. Mr Schick gave us definitions and we had to copy down notes from the slide he showed us today. Also we learned some facts on the statistics on our population and whether it is increasing or decreasing. Also we talked about why people leave their countries to come to the United States or any other country and why people leave the United States to go live somewhere else. And we found out about the rate of deaths each day and the rate of how many babies were born.

Things You Don't Know About Nike

In class today we looked at a website dealing with the video we watched on the Nike Sweatshops. It showed that Nike still does and treat their workers in the sweatshop terribly. But the minimum wage in Indonesia is now $4.00 instead of $1.25 a day. This is a good thing because even though they have a terrible job, they're still getting paid more each day. But Nike is now starting to hire officers of Indonesia to force them to work a full day and get paid $3.70 instead of $4.00. Even though its 30 cents their saving they save so much money if they did this all over because they have so many workers and it will all add up.

Do You Really Know About Nike?

Today in school we watched a video in class on a man that was a professional soccer player and got asked to coach at St John's University. He accepted the job and loved doing it until he was told they were given a reward of cash if they let nike sponser them and wear their appereal. He did some research on nike and realized in the sweat shop where this appereal was getting made in Indonesia that the workers were only getting paid $1.25 a day. He then realized this was rediculous and went to Indonesia with his friend and tried to live on their wage of money they earned each day for a month straight. He went to confront the CEO of Nike and they had nothing to say to him and was okay with the way they were living.

Does Globalization Affect Us?

In class today we talked more about globalization and the pros & cons it has. We also went over why Wikipedia was a good source because it has a lot of helpful information and there are people monitering the website to make sure people do not post false information on the website. After we got a partner and started to work on a powerpoint on globalization and the pro's and con's it has and why or why not it affects us.

Remembering 9/11

Today in class we talked about the tragedy that happened 12 years ago on 9/11 where planes crashed into the twin towers. We talked about why it happened and where Mr. Schick was that day. It was a tragedy even for people that were students in John Carroll during that day. Their familys lives were impacted forever with a lost loved one from this incident or someone in their family who was in New York City that day. During class Mr. Schick also showed us a picture of a KFC & Mcdonalds built together and China and we talked about how their country is even up to date with our fast foods as well as everything else.

Google Drives Are Awesome

Today in class Mr. Schick showed us how to install Google Drive to our computers and showed us how to make a new document on it. It is like a microsoft word page but your in a group with classmates and you all type on the same page and can fix what each other wrote. I like it a lot better than microsoft word because every time you type something it automatically saves unlike word where you have to save before you ex out of the page or if your computer shuts down you loose all your work. I think microsoft word should be like the google drive and save automatically every time you type something new

Our "New" Teacher Carly

Today in class we first started off talking about the abortion signs we saw this morning as we were coming in to school and what was our opinion on them. Then a student named Carly taught us instead of Mr. Schick and she asked about our blogs last night and what we chose that we thought were interesting and shared it to the class. She also asked us why we chose the certain facts that were in the video and we have to explain them.

Interesting Things in the Shift Happens Video

The three things that interested me in the video we watched today in class were...

"The top 10 jobs in 2010, didnt exist in 2004" This interested me because the jobs that are there now are helping the economy didnt even exist in 2004 and now they do. I wonder what jobs are going to be availible when im older and what technology will be out.

" The U.S ranks 28th in the world in broadland internet penetration" This interested me because its would see to be Americans can get on the interenet everywhere because were always on the internet but there are 27 more countries ahead of us with more broadland internet than us.

"1 out of 6 married couples met online" This also interested me because this means that people are not going out and meeting people they are looking for matches online instead of having a face to face conversation trying to get to know someone.
